Founded in 1999, the CESifo Research Network links outstanding economists from 23 countries and covers the complete spectrum of economic research. The Network, which counts four Nobel laureates among its members, is unusually selective. No other network enjoys such a close relationship to a university: all its members have previously been guest researchers at the the University of Munich’s Center for Economic Studies or, more recently, at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research. Furthermore, after their visit they are subjected to a stringent selection process. Once accepted, members enjoy access to exclusive CESifo-organised conferences, receive the CESifo English-language publications and have their working papers delivered to a worldwide audience. CESifo also fosters various research projects carried out by Network members in co-operation with CESifo Group in-house researchers. Ingo Vogelsang is an internationally renowned expert
in the economics of network industries. Born in Hamburg, he holds a doctorate
from the University of Heidelberg and a post-doctoral degree from the
University of Bonn. He is now a Professor of Economcis at the University
of Boston, where he has lived for the past 25 years with his wife and
two daughters. He used to run his family’s coal import business.
But “it wasn’t what I wanted to do”, he says. Something
did remain, though: as an economist, he specialised in the economics of
his former clients, the power utilities. |
